Lawrence Manor History
Until the 1940s, this Toronto neighbourhood was mainly farmland. When the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation purchased this land for residential development in 1940, water service, sewers and roads were installed before lots were sold to builders. When residents began to move into Lawrence Manor in the 1950s, there was still a small portion of farmland – until 1953, when the Lawrence Plaza shopping centre was built on this site at the corner of Bathurst and Lawrence!
