Bayview Village began as a small rural farming community in the 1800s with present day planning beginning in 1954 by Farlinger Development Ltd and led by town planner Dr. E. G. Faludi. Within the early phases of development, the new neighbourhood was described as “contemporary living in the countryside, at the doorstop to the urban concentration of “Metropolitan Toronto”.
Bayview Village is situated in the north-central area of Toronto; with Finch Avenue to the north, Bayview Avenue to the west, Leslie Street to the east and Highway 401 to the south. The community was planned with the landscape in mind; fitting the housing development within the areas greenspaces like The East Don Parklands Trail that winds through the centre. The area is also serviced by the North York YMCA and the Bayview Village Shopping Centre which is a popular recreational spot for residents as it provides shopping, a public library, movie theatres and special events throughout the year. The Bayview Village Shopping Centre also offers residents upscale shopping and restaurants as well as a number of well-known box stores. The area is serviced by bus lines that provide connecting routes to stations on the Yonge-University-Spadina subway line and is within close proximity to Highway 401.
Bayview Village’s winding streets and culs-de-sac are lined with mature trees and many lots offer the beautiful views of the East Don River Valley Parklands. Most of the areas homes were built between 1954 and 1964, and include a range of homes styles from ranch style bungalows, split-level houses, Georgian Revival-style homes to a number of newly built condominium buildings.
