The area now known as Boor West Village Toronto was first owned by Lieutenant Colonel William Smith Durie, the first commanding office of the Queens Rifles, in the 1850s. Present day development for the neighbourhood began in 1909 when the district became part of the City of Toronto and eventually the area residents founded the Bloor West Village Business Improvement Area, the first of its kind in Canada and becoming the most successful. With over 400 shops, restaurants and professional services, local residents can purchase all their shopping needs in their own area. Bloor West Village is north-west Toronto; situated east of Jane Street, west of Runnymede Road, north of Bloor Street and south of Annette Street. A popular neighbourhood for families, this area has several schools and is walking distance to High Park. This 399 acre Toronto parkland contains picnic areas, gardens, a restaurant, an outdoor amphitheatre, a playground, sport facilities and more. The community centre and public library are also located within the neighbourhood and offer public programs to the community.
Bloor West Village Toronto homes are all fairly similar in size and style having been built in relatively short period of time between 1912 and 1923. The homes feature deep front porches, mature tree lined streets, and many feature decorative accents.
