Brampton’s history dates all the way back to the early 1800’s when it was a rural outpost known simply as Buffy’s Corners. By 1858 the Grand Trunk Railway began travelling through the village, creating further growth and putting Brampton on the map. In 1974, the City of Brampton was formed from an amalgamation of the former Town of Brampton, the Towns of Toronto Gore and Chinguacousy as well as parts of neighbouring Mississauga.
With over 523,000 residents, the City of Brampton is one of Canada’s largest and fastest growing municipalities. Brampton shares its northeast boarder with the City of Toronto and Toronto’s Pearson International Airport, attracting people and business to the area due to its close proximately to the city. The city core has over 320 businesses in the downtown core, as well as professional and medical offices. This downtown area also offer the popular Brampton Farmers Market, restaurants and theatres. The City of Brampton has several community centres, parks and outdoors spaces that provide the area with recreational activities and services. Brampton Transit, GO Transit and Via Rail all offer service from Brampton’s Downtown Transit Centre situated at Nelson and Church Streets. Sharing a municipal border with three of GTA’s largest municipalities: Toronto, Mississauga and Vaughan, Brampton is easily accessible for commuters through the 400 series highways.
Downtown Brampton is filled with heritage properties that date back to the 1830’s with several different styles that include: Georgian, Tudor, English Cottage and Dutch Colonial as well as a variety of bungalows.
