Located in distinguished mid-town Toronto, the Chaplin Estates Toronto neighbourhood began as a plan for a new subdivision on the outskirts of the city. The new subdivision was registered by William John Chaplin and his son James D. Chaplin in 1913. The developers intended for the neighbourhood to be marketed has a high class residential district, therefore many building restrictions and zoning bylaws were included in the sale of each lot. Some of these restrictions included, limited use of stucco exteriors and the prohibition of semi-detached houses.
The homes of Chaplin Estates Toronto are two and three storey detached houses built in the 1920’s and 1930’s and are reminiscent of Tudor, Georgian, and English Cottage architecture. Most homes have private driveways and are situated on premium lots.
Chaplin Estates Toronto offers numerous recreational areas and facilities that are enjoyed by all ages. The Neighbourhood is home to the North Toronto Community Centre, where residents can enjoy ultra-modern exercise rooms, walking tracks, a gymnasium, and indoor and outdoor pools equipped with waterslides. If you’re looking for more nature-oriented leisure, Chaplin Estates is home to the historic Beltline trail. Opening in 1892, this trail was constructed as a commuter railway line to service many new neighbourhoods north of the city. Today, this 9 km trail is enjoyed by joggers, cycling enthusiasts and anyone looking to enjoy a leisurely walk.
Residents of Chaplin Estates Toronto are also within walking distance of a trendy, high-end shopping district called “The Eglinton Way”. This vibrant district includes restaurants, professional offices, gourmet food shops, and one-of-a-kind stores and boutiques.
