The Township of East York Toronto was incorporated on January 1, 1924 which at the time comprised mostly of market gardens, a handful of brick making yards and a race horse track. Between 1946 and 1961, East York Toronto grew to nearly double its size when the housing supply expanded due to demand. Up until 1998, when the area was amalgamated into the City of Toronto, East York held the distinction of being Canada’s only Borough. The fact this area chose to remain a Borough for so long rather than be incorporated as a city speaks volumes for the small town feel that remains an East York Toronto trademark.
East York Toronto is fast becoming a desirable area for home buyers, as houses are relatively affordable and the location offers quick and easy access to downtown Toronto. This neighbourhood is located in north-east Toronto; north of Danforth Avenue, east of Broadview Avenue, south of O’Connor Drive and west of Victoria Park Avenue. Danforth provides shoppers with a variety of markets, bakeries, coffee shops, clothing stores and Toronto’s best selection of Greek restaurants. The area also offers numerous indoor and outdoor recreational facilities that include tennis courts, outdoor swimming pools, golfing, multi-purpose trails, outdoor ice rinks and a public library. This area is conveniently located within a ten minute drive to downtown and is serviced by bus transportation that connects passengers to the Bloor-Danforth subway line.
