The Hoggs Hollow Toronto neighbourhood is located in the Don River Valley, centred around the Yonge Street and York Mills Road intersection. The community was named after Joseph Hogg, who came to this area from Scotland in 1824. Here, he and his family operated a grist mill and whisky distillery, and soon became one of the most prominent settlers in the valley. By 1856, the Hogg estate was subdivided into lots, though few homes were built in these early days. In the 1920s, further subdivision occurred, and many English countryside-style homes were constructed along winding streets and crescents which feature no interruption from sidewalks.
Homes in Hoggs Hollow Toronto feature many styles, with some modernist architecture and examples of English Cottage, Georgian, Colonial and Tudor architecture. Built primarily between the 1920s and 1960s, these homes were built with care to recreate the traditional look of properties overseas. Some newer luxury condominiums and townhomes can be found along Yonge Street. Large lots, lovely foliage and private driveways add to the rustic charm of Hoggs Hollow.
Hoggs Hollow Toronto is one of the city’s most highly-valued neighbourhoods because of its natural setting, character-filled homes and proximity to transportation and amenities.
