Leaside Toronto is a beautiful and distinctive area that is now one of Toronto’s most sought after and desirable neighbourhoods. Residents are drawn to the serenity of Leaside Memorial Gardens, area schools such as Leaside High School and the Leaside Tennis Club – all of which make the area a very family friendly neighbourhood.
The post-European history of this neighbourhood begins with the Lea family who resided in the neighbourhood in the early 19th century and built their homestead in the area. In 1912, William Mackenzie and Donald Mann started the development of the community to be built around the Canadian Northern Railway maintenance yard – and subsequent to this, the town of Leaside was born.
The majority of homes in the Leaside neighbourhood were built in the 1930’s and 1940’s and here you will find a variety of two-story detached homes, bungalows and semi-detached houses. In recent years, many bungalow home owners have renovated to include second storey additions or replacing older homes with new custom designed homes.
